Twerking aside, a non-issue as far as I'm concerned. White people just need to get over twerking! I'm sort of two minds about this. One, flutes, be they crystal or otherwise are made to play. That is their purpose. However, this one is 200 + years old, a historical item of brittle nature. We got so worked up over Marilyn's dress, which is a piece of 'ephemera', delicate and easily damaged though it be clothing which was once meant to be worn. A dress versus a crystal flute. Madison was a slave owner and Lizzo, a musician of skill (and twerker of renown) plays his flute because she can? Or because it was his and now she's made it hers? 200+ year revenge? Too bad Madison isn;t here to witness it. There are reports that Kim Kardashian irreparably damaged Marilyn's dress which she wore because she wanted to make it her own. That damage is unforgiveable when she could have easily afforded a much better fitting duplicate. If Lizzo had accidentally dropped and shattered that flute - well we'd have a different story. My heart clutches at the thought of anyone doing any such thing to irreplaceable, historical items. I even think that the statues made to honor racists and murderers need to be taken out of the public squares they dominated for so long, preserved in a museum that tells the truth and keeps them as object lessons until no one needs to learn anything anymore. So, the final question for me is what did we learn from Lizzo playing the crystal flute and by the way, how was its sound?
