Thoughts on the Recent Presidential Debate, THE Supreme Court Ruling, and Going Forward in the Face of Abject Fear

As I watched President Biden semi-shuffle across the stage, waving to a non-existent audience and greeting them with a husky, throat-worn voice, I grew just a little afraid. That was because I’d already seen news accounts, including a round-table discussion amongst nine well-known news ‘pundits’ of dubious reflective ability, all of whom decried President Biden’s obvious ‘oldness’ and called for him to ‘step down’ as a candidate.

Hold on a doggone minute! On consideration, after the initial stomach drop, this seemed a play straight into Trump’s hands.

Most of the pundits looked terrified, dismayed, saddened, surprised and even a little angry. What? Didn’t you know that President Biden was eighty-one years old? Didn’t you know that if, that orange idiot, who wouldn’t know the truth of anything if it slapped him in the face like a cold, wet mackerel, is somehow able to take away this election he’ll be that old and older before the end of the term? Come on!

Age is a factor, I’ll grant you that. But so, it is to be hoped, is cognitive ability, memory, and especially function. America is such an AGEIST society. It worships voluminous hair, shining white teeth, and smooth skin. We must get over the idea that we must idolize/idealize someone to respect them. We must cultivate the idea that experience and wisdom, especially in government, are not just desired but required. Add…
