I've read some of your replies and it seems that there are some people who disagree with you. As I do. I won't speak for them but I will say that I am not against you I just know a bit about the history of the Commonwealth and have seen its good works and heard a huge number of people who are from member countries say how much they value being members. There are a few who are leaving and while it is clear that the Queen (and now the King) was sad to see them go there is no coercion to stay. However, there is still power in the collective. That is the reason why the Commonwealth is supported and sponsored by the Monarchy. It came out of colonialism, there is no denying that but it has shifted, purposefully and that is because of the 'soft-power' of the monarchy. It's the promotion now of the 'power-with' principle rather than the 'power-over'. Therefore, the Commonwealth is not 'colonial cosplay' but an encouragement to come together and exercise that power together for the greater good. The British Royals are like the people who just host the party, not the people who call the tune. These political realities are not black and white. There are lots of good and bad guys floating in and out but to blame the Royals, who worked hard (no one more than Queen Elizabeth) to see that shift happen for those that take advantage in the member countries, is short-sighted at best. In case you are wondering, I am not a royalist particularly. I am instead interested in history and societal change and how just one person can make a difference. Thank you for your article.
