I live in Britain. Have done for the last 16 years - other than a spate of forced re-integration in America due to a persistant bug whose name everyone knows. There are many, major differences between the two countries. I think I'll write about this more in depth another time but for now I just want to address the hang-y up thing. The UK is much, MUCH worse at it than are Americans. From your description Americans probably lie somewhere in the middle between Russians and Brits. British people can brew a cup of tea during the time they try to say goodbye. 'Okay, I'll love you and leave you. Guess I better say goodbye. Bye. Bye. Bye-bye. Talk with you soon. Oh! By the way...! Well, it's time I got off the phone. Shall we say goodbye? Bye now. Bye. Bye....' fading off as you bend yourself down in total submission. This is the short version. Thanks for the laugh-out-loud funny article. I truly enjoyed it AND the other one!
